Though the iPhone gets much of the attention when it comes to mobile apps, RIM recently launched its BlackBerry App World to compete with Apple. I've been using apps from that store (and a few other Twitter clients that can be downloaded online) that bring social networking to the social networker. Some are better than others, but they're all worth trying at least once. And they're all free!

Learn about five Blackberry social networks - BBMNation, Magmic Social, BlackBerryUnderground, BlackBerry Ave adn PinSwapMe e.g. PinSwapMe has a lot of what you would expect in a BB social networking site. I would say it’s direct competitor in BBUnderground, in that it wants to be a one-stop-shop. I like that PinSwapMe provides a wide range of things to do on the site. It’s important for every social network to have a reason to visit on a daily basis.

With regard to RIM’s presentation, BlackBerry is putting its money on real-time use of social technologies. As we know, in the diner, these technologies flourish through wireless. Mr. Balsillie demonstrated this by showing the utility of the new BlackBerry devices and how they can fuse all of your entertainment, music and social networks.

BlackBerry already integrates Flickr and Facebook. In addition to those social spaces, Mr. Balsillie also announced a recent deal with MySpace.
