Saudi Arabian mobile operator Mobily launched the new mobile social networking service Khod w khal, freely translated as Chit-chat in English, before Ramadan this year. Khod w khal is an advanced mobile social networking service with picture uploads, chat rooms and friend finder features amongst others. Khod w khal works both in Arabic and English and is based on Small Planet's proprietary technology and service concept.

MySpace and Facebook are the two leading mobile social networks, according to ABI Research. Does this present an opportunity for marketers?

Consumers do not want to recreate entirely new and separate social networks for mobile. They would rather tap into their existing social network and have it go with them via the mobile phone.
