Todays 3G News SummariesCautious optimism felt over Telus prospects Cautious optimism felt over Telus prospects: During last week’s conference call, Telus chief executive Darren Entwistle said the company will eventually move to a 4G LTE wireless network, but did not disclose how it will evolve from its current CDMA network to that point. According to Allen, Bell and Telus would likely roll out a 3G HSPA network without a 2G GSM underlay, but overall, the technology choice may almost be moot. Wireless broadband to be cellular feast Wireless broadband to be cellular feast: Massive growth in wireless broadband services is being forecast, with the market set to be dominated by cellular technologies. Telecoms analyst Analysys Mason predicts there will be a total of 2.1 billion wireless broadband customers globally generating $784bn in service revenue by 2015 - an increase of some 2,400 per cent. Cellular broadband technologies - such as HSPA (aka 3.5G) and LTE (the next-gen long term evolution of 3G) - will take the largest share, with 20 times as many customers as alternative wireless broadband tech WiMax by the end of 2015. Countdown to 4G: Who’s Doing What, When Countdown to 4G: Who’s Doing What, When : As the iPhone has shown, carriers are going to have to upgrade their mobile networks to handle the increasing amount of data traffic that will come from users surfing social networks, YouTube and heaven knows what else while on the go. Just please don’t do it while driving. So for those reading about the promise of 4G networks such as LTE or mobile WiMAX, here’s a look at each carrier’s launch plans and when (or if) you can expect to see up to 100 Mbps down on your mobile network. MetroPC jumps the CDMA sinking ship for 4G LTE » MetroPC jumps the CDMA sinking ship for 4G LTE » : CDMA carriers are slowly coming round to the idea that CDMA is shuffling its final steps out the door, and although there are still those carriers out there who would have mobile users believe CDMA is superior to the GSM standard, the inevitable fact is that the CDMA days are virtually over. Therefore, just like Verizon before them, MetroPC is adopting the GSM based LTE network tech for their 4G network. The future of 4G in Australia- report The future of 4G in Australia- report: Research and Markets ( http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/17f6f0/2008_australia_m) has announced the addition of the “2008 Australia - Mobile Data and Content - The Wireless Broadband Explosion” report to their offering. For those needing high level strategic analysis and forecasts of Australia’s mobile data and content markets, as the market moves towards wireless broadband, this report identifies business opportunities, points out the hype and the pitfalls, and will be of assistance in making the right business decisions. It provides essential reading and gives in-depth information on: Leap moves to block Verizon-Alltel merger Leap moves to block Verizon-Alltel merger: It’s not just AT&T and the Rural Cellular Association that are asking the FCC to help muck-up competing wireless carriers’ merger deals. Leap Wireless has asked the FCC to block the $28.1 billion Verizon-Alltel merger deal that would have Verizon becoming the top wireless provider in the US. 4G technology gets an academic boost 4G technology gets an academic boost: Calcutta University and Aalborg University have decided to collaborate to conduct research programs on 4G technology, the new global unified wireless structure. For a start, both universities have set up The Centre for Tele-infrastruture (CTIF) which would begin work on 4G technology research from December this year. MetroPCS to share same 4G as AT&T, Verizon MetroPCS to share same 4G as AT&T, Verizon: MetroPCS will use the same fourth-generation (4G) cellular data access as larger carriers, the company has revealed while discussing its latest quarterly results. Though small, the provider says it will switch its network from its existing CDMA format to the same Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard that will be used by AT&T, Verizon and the latter’s recent buyout target Alltel. Is WiMax Slowing Down Is WiMax Slowing Down: In the past few week it’s becoming quite interesting to know where WiMax is heading and it’s progress if at all there is any. There are so many articles which emerge everyday to say that WiMax has leaped further in terms of development in the technology and commercialization. Although I am too convinced about that but one thing about which am pity sure is that LTE has to seriously push its plans if it has to be in any sort of chance to catch WiMax. LTE 4G. A Gamer's Wireless Dream? LTE 4G. A Gamer's Wireless Dream? : Here comes along LTE (Long Term Evolution) as the 4g (digital fourth generation) solution with wireless carriers offering the ability to download more than 100mbps compared to current 3g (digital third generation) solutions that support up to 7mbps. But despite the faster speeds can wireless data cards present another solution for gamers? Currently, wireless data cards offer poor performance for online gaming due to high langency issues. Unlike broadband connections from telco and cable providers, wireless connections tend to be a bit unstable, resulting in high latency that is so common with other wireless providers such as satalite. So does faster speeds mean the latency will go away? The short term answer is no but, recently, new light has appeared at the end of the
tunnel.
